Here’s some food for thought. What makes you think that we are smarter than nature? Many of the vitamins that exist in nature are found as a family of related molecules and only a few of these molecules are able to be replicated in a lab. Without the appropriate carrier nutrients, a lot of the vitamin we consume in pill form are not absorbed. To quote my doctor, taking any additional vitamins while following a well-balanced diet is just paying for expensive pee. (Well except for vitamin D in the winter time). Don’t fall for it. Hi I’m Ashley and I like to consider myself a half-vegan. What exactly does that mean? I support the idea that we don’t need to eat meat every meal or everyday. I support the idea of animal welfare and the health of all living things in our world. I eat meat, but I choose to research and purchase meat from sustainable farms that humanely raise their animals and give them access to natural foods, pasture and sunlight. There’s a lot in the world that needs to change. Our nutrition and our planet has been in danger for the last century and I’m doing my best to give my body what it needs in the most healthy, sustainable way possible. In the book Deep Nutrition, author and M.D. Catherine Shanahan says it best: “...Important lessons to be learned from the vegan/vegetarian community that benefit the animals raises for food, the environment, and our health. While omnivores and vegans necessarily disagree about one of the central ethical questions of our time - is it ever okay to eat animals or dairy? - there is much vegans and conscientious omnivores already agree about, The sooner these groups get together and discuss those commonalities, the sooner we can start to make a significant change in human health, and the healthier our planet.” I’m not writing this to create a debate about what is right and what is not.
